Luxury hotel description - DLW Luxury Hotels Worldwide
When a wonderful old house in the Medina, the historic city of Marrakesh, was renovated in 2007, a small room was discovered behind a wall that was evidently a later addition to the house, about which the previous owner knew nothing. In it was only a small old casket made of dark wood with silver inlay (a small jewellery box perhaps). Inside the casket lay a sheet of paper covered on both sides with old, handwritten Arabic calligraphy, and told the following story:‘
Ana Yela - My name is Yela. I am a girl, and I am 16 years old. Today is my last day in this wonderful house that my grandfather built many years ago. I am going to marry the man who has captured my love, whom I love with all my heart. On our terrace is a small tower from where you can see the whole world – the rooftops of Marrakesh, the huge snow-covered Atlas Mountains, the palm trees in the oasis, and the endless desert that surrounds us all.
„It´s the most lovely spot in the world“ said Winston Curchill to Franklin D Roosevelt about Marrakech in 1943. The Red City has remained hip ever since, reaching its peak in the 1960´s, when the first wave of bohemians rode the Marrakech Express at full throttle. AnYela is a very special place with a remarkably inspiring atmosphere. This is why it has been developed to hold seminars and workshops. It provides a space for small groups of up to 10 people to work creatively. Whether for inspiration or for brainstorming, AnaYela provides a unique environment.
AnaYela is a small, 300-year-old city palace in the heart of the Medina, the historic city of Marrakesh. “Ana Yela” translates literally as “I am Yela” and the architecture tells the story of a girl called Yela who once lived in this house. The restoration of the building took months and was carried out using only traditional Moroccan craftsmanship, for which Marrakesh is famous throughout the world. All of the work was carried out by hand, without the use of electric tools, by more than 100 artisans.
AnaYela consists of three rooms and two suites, providing accommodation for 10 guests. The first floor is air-conditioned. Due to the typical open plan design on the ground floor, air conditioning is not necessary, and it remains cool even in the hottest temperatures. Each room is individually decorated, and the suites also have brick-built baths for two.
